Vehicles in German Town Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities stated they were alerted by a resident who found a automobile in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Law enforcement state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.

The fluid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then located many other vandalized cars and house walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the substance was probably human blood.

"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.

City officials said they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the public for information.

A high-ranking official commented the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be addressed rapidly.

"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
