Highlighted Choice

This Satirical Thriller

The filmmaker's bold satire addresses the oppressive nature of women's appearance and the dreaded aspects of growing older. The veteran actress delivers a masterful portrayal as Elisabeth, an aging actress forced into presenting a workout series on TV. Pushed out by her slimy boss Harvey, she undergoes a secretive and horrifying procedure called this experimental method. This generates a new version of herself named Sue, resulting in a steadily more parasitic dynamic among both women. This Friday, Paramount Plus

This Mystery Thriller

This Agatha Christie-esque story includes Knightley in the role of Laura, an ace reporter who decides to take some time off from writing about international wars to join a luxury cruise accompanied by an ailing Scandinavian billionaire and charitable figure, her husband, plus additional filthy rich passengers. Yet once an unknown lady goes overboard one night and everyone insists she wasn't real, the reporter's sleuthing skills take over. Streaming currently, the Netflix platform

Presence

Steven Soderbergh pushes his film-making abilities through this nifty paranormal narrative filmed completely from the viewpoint of a ghost. As a family with Lucy Liu as Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe moves into their recent residence, the filming device – as the unseen entity – tracks their movements. The teen shows signs of sensing the supernatural presence, and it seems guarding her. But why? The premise is enjoyable that avoids overstaying, featuring a surprise that may be unexpected. October 11th, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, Sky Cinema

This Self-Referential Film

Cage fully commits to his eccentric image in this autobiographical spoof. He plays a narcissistic Hollywood actor named Nicolas Cage who agrees to a lucrative offer to attend a festive event at a Mediterranean location for the rich superfan Javi. Contacted by the CIA to investigate the suspected cartel boss, Cage's unique performing skills proves useful. Saturday 11 October, prime time, Channel 4

This Creepy Thriller

The director's claustrophobic thriller remains effective even without a sequel. Located in 1970s Colorado, several disappearances has made the local kids anxious. After Finney gets captured by the villain and held captive in a dungeon, he fears a terrible outcome. However, the disconnected phone in the room continues to ring, with ghostly voices providing assistance, while the intuitive nightmares of Gwen, his sister might rescue him. A solid creepfest. October 11th, 10.50pm, the Film4 channel

The Eyes of Tammy Faye

In the battle between faith and wealth, the victory is clear for materialism in Michael Showalter's delightfully tacky film adaptation of the disgraced TV preacher and her felon spouse. Andrew Garfield portrays the corrupt Bakker, who declares at the beginning, claiming divine approval for wealth. Both individuals begin profiting from the people's religious faith. It's a riot of poor styling, excessive cosmetics and bad faith, yet Chastain succeeds to present the real-life figure as a sympathetic figure. Next Tuesday, late night, the Film4 channel

This Espionage Thriller

This period's second offering by the same director delivers a spy mystery as tight as the polo necks used by Fassbender's UK spy. He receives a mission with uncovering a double agent within their ranks out of five possibilities – among them is Kathryn, played by Cate Blanchett. Both actors are experts of deadpan cool, leading to a delightful mind game of truth or lie takes place. Additional actors take part the smart espionage amusement. Friday 17 October, multiple time slots, Sky Cinema
